Our story began in 2024 when founder Martin Kovács started looking for a quality leather duffle bag. Soon he found out, that there is something rotten with the market out there. The natural materials like 100 % cotton, linen, wool, cashmere or leather slowly vanished from the market. In the chase of maximum profit the brands substituted these natural materials with synthetic materials or blends. If you are on the market today looking for 100 % cotton flannel or Henley shirt, it became nearly impossible task. Same goes for leather.
KOVACS Leathercraft was established in 2024. We are the house that refuses to compromise. We create for men and women who know that true confidence needs no explanation – it’s felt in the grain of the leather, the weight of the buckle, the quiet certainty of a piece made to last decades.
In a pursuit of real leather duffle bag, he searched even markets in Turkey, India and China and what he found out, really shocked him. The cheaper leather products were not leather at all. Even the ones labeled as “Genuine Leather” were far from being real full-grain leather. As he dug deeper, he found out, that there are about 20 other names that are marketed as “leather” yet have nothing in common with the natural, full-grain hides that last for decades.
Names like eco-leather, vegan-leather, and leatherette are just names for 100 % plastic product. Names like genuine leather, top-grain leather, suede, bonded leather, vera pelle, or pigmented leather, are used to market at the best inferior quality leather splits or even worse heat pressed leather and plastic particles bonded by glue – with printed grain and infused to smell like a leather.
The biggest problem however were not only products being made from inferior materials, but the complete lack of real leather product availability on the market. That was a point, where ready-made products with unappealing designs, machine stitched and produced in thousands, weird glossy finishes that peel after some use, turned him to small ateliers with bespoke orders. Even though, no one could actually make a duffle bag the way he imagined – real leather, fully-saddle stitched, and solid brass hardware.

After mishap with sourcing bespoke duffle bag, Martin Kovács decided to learn leather craft himself. After a year of leathercrafting, he started to see another problem with the market. All those mens sections in stores hidden in some corner, salesperson who do not care or have any information about the product they are selling. Tell us something – did you ever as a man felt weird while shopping? We got you. Shops are not men friendly by nature – smaller men sections, limited product selection, unappealing or not masculine designs, lack of quality.

In a response to market prioritizing fast fashion, two brothers – two founders – Martin Kovács and Tibor Kovács, founded a brand – KOVACS Leathercraft. A brand, that goes against the trends. Brand, that doesn’t outsource their work, but makes all the crafting and designing in-house in Bratislava, Slovakia. Brand, that sources only natural materials from responsible and sustainable tanneries, creating a fully handmade product that lasts decades and is completely customized to your likes.
